Breakfast All day records: how young creatives bring a sense of community for local artists

There is nothing more inspiring than seeing our youth pursue their dreams despite their age.
Three teens from Bethesda, Maryland came together to establish their own record label in hopes of creating a community of young artists, but how did it all start?
I got the opportunity to discuss the idea behind their record label, how it began, what they have accomplished so far, and what they hope to achieve in the future.
It sparked as a fun idea between two friends, Sofia Guyer (15) and Tonito Tijerino (16) who have known each other their entire lives, yet got closer in middle school due to their love of music.

The idea of starting a record label went alongside this experience as they wanted to create a space for more people to share their love of music and fully emerge themselves into the growing scene located in their hometown.
Soon enough, word of their idea reached their friend, Toby Zapruder (16) who was the person who really motivated them to turn this dream into reality.
A successful record label needs a unique name to be remembered and sought after, which is exactly what the group did.
How did you come up with the name for the record label?
Guyer: “Tonito and I were sitting outside of this abandoned diner in our town that’s pretty rundown and one of the old posters said ‘Breakfast All Day’ and we kind of just looked at each other and loved it.”
Just like that, Breakfast All Day Records was born, and now began their goals and intentions as a label.
They knew that they wanted to highlight local bands, promote small artists, and ultimately capture the music scene in their town.
“There are so many talented people here, especially teenagers, and they need to have a place to express it all,” said Guyer.
What kind of artists are you most drawn to for your label?
Tijerino: “I like high energy kind of bands that get the crowd going.”
Guyer: “Indie rock usually grabs my eye, but I especially like it when bands bring in unordinary instruments into the genre.”
Ultimately, Breakfast All Day Records is a home to unique individuals that not only perform, but create a personal experience for their audience members.
Speaking of audience members, as a label they have been hosting many live events.
The first event was hosted at their local skate shop, yet they couldn’t conceal their excitement when they got approved to put on a show at Songbyrd Music House in Washington D.C.
Artists like Big Thief, Tyler Childers, and even Lil Peep have performed there and now members of their very own record label will soon be taking the stage.
Of course any live performance opportunities are amazing, but this is definitely a stepping stone that will be engraved in their minds as they continue to grow as a label and represent more artists.
So far they have promoted bands such as Teenage Riot, Scoria, Sundale, Plastic Toys, and most recently King Fisher.
King Fisher is actually one of Guyer’s favorite bands, and the label got the opportunity to release their first set of vinyls for them this past week.
“Getting to see the physical copies of the vinyl was an amazing feeling, I couldn’t believe it,” shared both Tijerino and Guyer.
Are there any other projects that you hope to accomplish in the future?
Guyer: “An idea we were thinking about was making a music podcast with Tonito, but the absolute dream would be a vinyl compilation of small artists, especially teens.”
People use music as an outlet and simply need somewhere to publish it, and these young teens have created a foundation for talented adolescents who desire to have their voices heard.
Guyer, Tijerino, and Zapruder are incredibly talented and inspirational, making it known that things truly are more achievable than it seems.
Guyer: “I feel like there’s still this idea of ‘How are you doing this?’ As long as you’re organized and confident enough, anyone can do it. You don’t have to wait until you’re older.”
On that note, I hope hearing this fascinating story inspires you to do something that you’ve always dreamed of, yet didn’t know if you were capable of accomplishing.
Use local resources, contribute to your community, and pursue your goals through drive and determination.
